The Amurang Foundation was founded in 2004 by Ritsko van Vliet and Watse Tigchelaar. The foundation focuses on the wellbeing of children and young people in Amurang and Tondano on the Indonesian island of North Sulawesi. The reason was the necessary care for thirty children, who fled Central Sulawesi. Amurang is the birthplace of Ritsko's mother. In recent years the foundation helped with building two childrens homes and a school. More than fifteen students annually study with a grant from Study Fund Amurang. With the Adoption Student project, the foundation links Frisian companies financially to Indonesian students. The foundation also provides educational projects with students from Friesland College, NHL Stenden and other educational institutions in the country.
